The artwork of London based artist Joy Jo, is ready to take on the vast media networks of the www and create that artistic
splash so many of us admire. Joy Jo has a visual distinction in her work, combining the beautiful elegant strokes of paint
together with this, what seems a world of depth and intrigue. She uses an almost harmonic sound of artistic embrace
to visually capture and create these colorful yet deep provoking pieces. Combined with her love for sound, song
and lyrical implements, Joy Jo manipulates all of these aspects to create surrealistic,
abstract and strangely realistic pieces of artwork.

As you have seen via the Joy Jo film on the previous page, titled  'Nocturne' a weird, surreal, yet beautifully charming
short film.

There is something about the way a critic or art lover simply looks at a canvas of work. It can vary from artist to artist but
with Joy Jo I find myself staring into an ever-growing abyss of colour and stroke that I think is reminiscent of a modern
day and vibrant Monet. With her work there seems to be something new to discover upon that second, third, fourth time
around. It is what makes her work resoundingly astute and almost timeless.

It's weird how one can use an amount of words to describe the form of artwork of an artist, what usually resonates are
 these long lost paragraphs of artistic verbal banter? I will grit down to the bare knuckle of this here presentation before
I find myself lost baffling. I will simply write that Joy Jo is an artist who deserves recognition beyond the canvas she
paints. Joy Jo has exhibited all over the world and is continuing to grow with her style and these unique verbal
explorations within her works of art.

런던을 기반으로 한 작가 조이 조의 작품은 WWW의 광대한 미디어네트워크을 타고 우리 중 많은 이들이 동경하는 예술적 물보라를 일으킬 준비가 되어있다. 조이 조는 그녀의 작업 안에서 아름답고 우아한 회화의 필치를 깊이와 이끌림의 세계로 보이는 그 무엇과 결합하는 시각적 탁월성을 지니고 있다. 그녀는 예술적 포옹으로서의 조화로운 사운드를 이 색채적인, 그러나 깊이를 이끌어내는 작품들을 시각적으로 포착하고 창조하기 위해 사용한다. 그녀의 사운드와 노래, 그리고 서정적 구현에 대한 사랑으로 조이 조는 이 모든 요소들을 결합하여 초현실적이며 추상적인, 또한 이상하리만큼 현실적인 작품들을 만들어 낸다. 

 

앞의 페이지에 게재되어 있는 ‘녹턴(아샹곡)’이라는 제목의 이상한, 초현실적인, 그러나 아름답고 매력적인 조이 조의 필름을 보았을 것이다. 비평가 또는 예술 애호가가 그저 뚫어져라 캔버스 작품을 바라보는 데에는 어떤 이유가 있다. 이것은 작가마다 달라질 수 있지만 조이 조의 경우, 필자는 – 개인적 견해로는 모더니즘 시대와 활기에 찬 모네를 연상시키는 - 영원히 자라날 듯한 색채와 필치의 심연을 응시하는 본인을 발견했다. 그녀의 작품을 보고 있노라면 두 번, 세 번, 네 번을 보아도 무언가 발견할만한 새로운 것이 있을 것만 같다. 이러한 점이 그녀의 작품을 굉장히 기민하게, 또한 시간을 초월한 영원성을 가지도록 만드는 것이다.

한 작가의 작품의 형태를 설명하는 데에 무수한 단어들을 사용하는 것은 이상한 일이다. 예술에 관한 말장난으로 가득한 길고 텅 빈 단락들을 울리는 단어들 말이다.

나는 스스로도 이해할 수 없는 말을 늘어 놓기 전에 군말없이 이 소개를 마치려 한다. 간단히 말해서 조이 조는 그녀가 그리는 캔버스 그 이상의 인정을 받을 자격이 있는 예술가이다. 조이 조는 세계를 두루 다니며 전시를 가진 바 있으며 그녀의 작품 속에서 그녀만의 독특한 언어 탐험과 성장을 지속하고 있다.
